Will Virtual Reality change the future of Influencer Marketing?

--

Technology and digital media have moved so fast and changed radically the last few years, that makes a lot of us wonder:
‘’Is there anything else to do? Haven’t we seen everything?’’.

Double-click the mIRC32 icon to start the program and first say hello to Khaled Mardam-Bey, who so graciously let you have this software without paying for it first.

Think how it all started. Beginning with asynchronous communication, to plain e-mails to chatting with our friends on IRC from different places, then making msn messengers video calls and now social media platforms and high speed internet that have connected even Pyramids in Sudan. The Gaming industry that in many cases led the revolution in graphics and processors power: games on computers from 5.25 inch Floppy Disks with low quality of graphics, then to consoles, lag teleport times in Second Life and now we moved to Steam, Oculus Rift and real time multiplayer VR and AR Minecraft.

Virtual Reality is the future of Social Media.

Virtual Reality is the closest way to merge the physical world to the digital one. Companies that develop such kind of technology covered big steps, but as Mark Zuckerberg said on last year’s Oculus review, we have achieved only 1% of what we can do.

Mark Zuckerberg joked that Facebook’s goal is to have 1 billion people in VR one day, but that we’re not even 1% of the way there right now

I will mainly focus on the digital marketing field and more specifically, how it will affect the industry. Influencer marketing is one of the most effective ways of advertising products and services. They have gained the trust of social media users and brands, and even more now we are all interested in experiencing a tiny bit of their daily routine.

In the future, Influencers will be able to do Virtual Reality shared experiences and 360o live videos and people getting inside a platform to re-live the experience of walking around with them or actually talking to them, as a shared experience. Imagine wearing the VR glasses and being in your favourite Influencer’s room, while talking to them. This is even more engaging than what we have seen till now.

The past year or so has seen a series of software and hardware updates in the industry that have made VR seems closer than ever. As it does for so many other forms of VR, the newly released standalone Oculus Quest represents potential for a significant influx of users, creating starting critical mass. And because attention for influencers is a singular asset the attention of the users will bring them on Virtual Reality platforms very soon!
